Harvest Ministries of Manasota
For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the children of God. Romans 8:14
Vision and Goals of Harvest Ministries of Manasota

We are praying for a mighty work of the Holy Spirit among God’s beloved East African children.

Dr. David Githii, General Assembly Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of East Africa (PCEA), visited Bradenton, Florida, in June  2006. Harvest Ministries of Manasota formed a relationship and alliance with the PCEA, some four million strong, to support the Gospel harvest in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, and other nations of East Africa.
What then, do we hope to accomplish?

In his 2006 Moderator’s Report to the PCEA General Assembly (See Appendix), Dr. Githii put forth an ambitious program of reformation, renewal and revival. Harvest Ministries proposes to assist him and the Church in certain goals where we can provide helpful resources: As many people come to salvation, and as the churches increase their ministry of praise and worship, we want to send support for the revival, teaching and empowerment of our brothers and sisters.

1. Harvest Ministries is available to direct your gifts through a legal, charitable, recognized non-profit corporation to Dr. David Githii and the Presbyterian Church of East Africa. You will receive a timely tax-deductible receipt for every gift. Harvest Ministries is a National Heritage Program and is a legal vehicle in all 50 states. Every donation is carefully audited and will be used only for your intended purpose. You will receive a timely receipt and a note of thanks. You can designate your gift for a specific purpose, or make a gift through us to the PCEA for their general needs. Of course, we hope that you also will donate directly to Harvest Ministries so that we can carry out our mission to bring Christ to the nations, and the nations to Christ, especially in East Africa. We are fully accountable to our donors.

2. We propose to assist in a new outpouring of the Holy Spirit upon the entire PCEA. There are five regions in the PCEA, as well as the PCEA Annual Convention in Nairobi where thousands of believers gather each year. Leaders at Gospel Crusade Ministerial Fellowship and Gospel Crusade International are now forming plans to go to Nairobi in September 2007, sponsoring five PCEA Regional conferences. We want to train leaders in the experience and teaching of the Baptism of the Holy Spirit, gifts of the Spirit, spiritual warfare, and fasting and prayer, in fulfillment of General Assembly Resolutions. We are praying for 2007 to be a year of destiny for the people of the PCEA. Rev. Eugene Weaver, President of Gospel Crusade Ministerial Fellowship, met with David on January 29, 2007 to begin planning for the regional conferences. We believe God for signs and wonders, for outpouring of the gifts of the Spirit, for strength for spiritual warfare, and for sanctification and holiness of life to result from these ministries.

3. We propose to assist in the training of ministers, elders, evangelists, church group leaders, and spouses, those who bear the greatest responsibility for leadership. We wish to sponsor an ongoing series of retreats in order to bring the maximum inspiration and training to the entire leadership of each local congregation. Gospel Crusade has experienced leadership and mission teams who have trained leadership in Haiti and Central America. We desire to call together these seasoned leaders to help with leadership training. In addition, we wish to support the efforts for leadership training that have already begun and are ongoing within the PCEA.

4. We propose to provide leadership and training to establish a ministry of counseling aimed toward the needs of the local PCEA pastors. We wish to equip and train leaders in counseling approaches and to establish programs and support systems to meet the needs of pastors and their families. Models of these support systems in the United States will need to be adapted to the cultural setting of Kenya.

5. We propose to empower the people of the church with agricultural training and development. The world headquarters of ECHO - Educational Concerns for Hunger Organization is just a few miles from our headquarters. ECHO is a center for global agricultural and missionary education. Their host of resources can empower the Kenyan people to attain economic growth and development. In particular, they provide seeds and training for unusual plants and projects.

6. We propose to educate the church members in income generating projects that will promote an entrepreneurial spirit. The entrepreneurial method of starting and maintaining small businesses can be taught and encouraged. We wish to share training and resources with the PCEA leaders and members.

7. We propose to assist in the establishment of training and support networks for institutional chaplains in the PCEA. In conjunction with this, we propose to encourage lay visitation ministries similar to the Stephen Ministry approach in the USA. By proper training and credentialing, using the model of Clinical Pastoral Education, and the training resources of the International Fellowship of Pastoral Counselors and Chaplains, we can increase this vital ministry among our sisters and brothers. With the formation of Deacon Zones and proper training in visitation, the ministry of care can be extended to all members and even beyond the local church into the community. We hope to support for the Church’s ministry to AIDS/HIV sufferers and provide training for grief counseling and practical support of widows, children and orphans, as we are able.

8. We will share in praise and worship with our beloved brothers and sisters. In his Moderator’s Report for 2006, David  said, “The Church needs to progressively improve praise in worship. Praise is an act of faith that affirms the character and redemptive power of God in all circumstances. If God truly dwells in the praises of his people, the regular practice of praise must be built into the lifestyle of the spiritual warrior.” Worship teams from Christian Retreat can share in the ministry of worship that our African brothers and sisters have already begun to develop. Trained worship leaders can greatly enhance the victories in our daily spiritual warfare.

9. In every way, we propose to support the harvest of righteousness and the outpouring of the Holy Spirit among the East African people. Dr. Githii challenged the PCEA in his report to become associated with the Holy Spirit – to walk in the power that Jesus promised. Harvest Foundation is grounded in the doctrine of the Baptism of the Holy Spirit (Acts 1:8). We wish to share His power with all the people of East Africa and to encourage the development of the PCEA as a Spirit-filled, Spirit-led, Spirit-empowered Church. As Dr. Githii said, “In the 21st Century, the PCEA Church plus many other Presbyterian Churches in the world are being told to open doors and windows to let the Holy Spirit be in charge in all the faculties of the church life. We seem to have replaced the value of the Holy Spirit with the traditions.” 10. Conclusion: We support this move of God to open the doors and windows. “Come, Holy Spirit!” This ambitious agenda will require great resources, faith and commitment. It is our prayer that we can begin where we are, and follow Christ to strengthen all aspects of God’s great work in East Africa. Do you wish to become involved? Will you help? Your help is needed and the prayers of God’s people will be the means by which God fulfills the vision and goals of Harvest Foundation, and the hopes and aspirations of the leaders and people of the Presbyterian Church of East Africa. Dr. Githii recently wrote to us: “We are praying God that He will touch people who will respond to this worthwhile ministry.”

Please pray and respond as God the Holy Spirit leads you.
